There’s just something special about this time of year in Magee.

The sun is shining a little brighter, the days are stretching a little longer, and everywhere you look…things are growing. From front porch flower pots to backyard vegetable gardens, our community is coming alive—and today, on National Gardening Day, it just feels right to stop and appreciate it all.

Now, I’ll be honest—I don’t have the greenest thumb in Simpson County—but I sure do love seeing what others can grow. There’s nothing quite like driving down a street and spotting bright blooms of color or rows of vegetables just waiting to be picked. It tells a story of hard work, patience, and a whole lot of love.

Gardening isn’t just about planting seeds in the ground. It’s about planting hope. It’s about slowing down, getting your hands a little dirty, and taking time to enjoy the simple things. In a world that moves fast, a garden reminds us to be still…to nurture…and to wait for something beautiful.

Right here in Magee, gardening has always been a part of who we are. Whether it’s fresh tomatoes shared with a neighbor, children learning how things grow, or families working side by side in the yard—these are the moments that bring us together.

And let’s not forget…there’s nothing better than homegrown. Those vine-ripe tomatoes, fresh cucumbers, and blooming flowers just hit different when they come from your own backyard.

So today, I encourage you—step outside. Plant something. Water what you’ve already started. Or just take a moment to admire the beauty around you.

Because in Magee, we’re not just growing gardens…

We’re growing community
