Really tough end to a really one of the most challenging weeks of my career. I was proud of our focus with everything that had gone on in our community throughout the week. Mendenhall is bigger and in those conditions was more physical, but we played a pretty clean half of football to take a 15-0 lead into the half. Since I’ve taken over, we have been a pretty good second half team. We got a stop coming out and had an unlucky fall of a punt onto a player that totally changed the momentum of the game. We needed to change the momentum or catch a break and neither happened. We had some breakdowns in special teams and offense didn’t help them. Mistakes compounded and we were were gassed. I mentioned last week, I was concerned that we only had to play one half of a ballgame against mt Olive, where Mendenhall had to play a complete game. That was a factor with a really soft and soggy field. I gave two stats we needed to win to win this game, we lost both. Nobody is more sick about it than me, but you can’t waste an opportunity to learn from a loss, a loss that stings more from a rival. We can and will get better in all phases, that’s from me all the way down to the ball boys. We move our attention to mize, who is a top 3 2A team. Coach Maddox is one of the best in the business as a man and coach. They have D1 players and will be an incredible challenge. We can’t let Mendenhall beat us twice, getting focused on Mize is imperative.
