Forrest County, Miss.— Less than one week remains to bid in an online auction of tax-forfeited properties in Forrest County, which includes parcels in Hattiesburg and Petal.

The Secretary of State’s Office has received 141 bids on 87 parcels in this online auction.  Forty-one (41) parcels have already sold to “Buy It Now” bidders for a total of $24,539.89. This feature allows the bidder to match or exceed a set offer amount and purchase the property immediately before the close of the auction.

The auction began on September 18, 2019, and will close on Wednesday, October 16 at 11:59 p.m. CST.  Bids may be submitted through the Secretary of State’s online auction portal.  In all, 300 tax-forfeited properties valued at over $1.6 million are available in the auction.

“Buying tax-forfeited property gives you the opportunity to own land in Forrest County and helps communities by returning parcels to the tax rolls,” stated Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, who launched online auctions in July 2016.

In recent years, successful auctions in Bay St. Louis, Bolivar County, Greenville, Greenwood, Hinds County, Jackson, Jones County, Madison County, McComb, Meridian, Pearl River County, Rankin County, Warren County, Waveland, Yazoo City, and many other communities, have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Mississippi schools, municipalities, and counties.

To learn more about tax-forfeited properties, visit the Secretary of State’s website or call the Public Lands Division at (601) 359-5156.
