One Tuesday night, October 10 2023, the Magee Zoning Board met to consider a conditional change to Magnolia’s on Main.  The property in question is located on 215 1st Avenue NW across from Christ Fellowship Church (formerly First United Methodist Church).

The Board room was packed with local citizens representing both the Methodist and Baptist churches as well as interested citizens .

The owner Vince Chatman appealed to the Board to allow for conditional use of the property.  The property is located in the Downtown Historical District of Magee which does not allow event venues.  Mr Chatman is seeking to have the house declared an Air B&B. (The city’s actual ordinance says “Rooming House.”)

Chatman stated he was not given adequate information from the beginning of the development of his property.

A privilege license was granted to Vince Chatman on November 03, 2022.

Following a lengthy discussion, the zoning commission voted to reject the request.

Mr. Chatman has the opportunity to appeal the decision which he says he will do.  The appeal will be brought before the Board of Aldermen.

The city’s zoning director is Penny Aguirre.  Member of the board are :  Diane McPhail, Bill Caughman, Jim Ball (chairman), Heather Prince McKenzie, Arthur Milton, and Brayden Lambert.
