PlayeroftheWeekWolves drop doubleheader to Northwest

BATESVILLE – The Copiah-Lincoln Wolves dropped a doubleheader to the No. 17 Northwest Rangers on Sunday. Due to field conditions the games were moved to South Panola High School in Batesville. Co-Lin was shut down by freshman pitcher Colt Smith who led the Rangers to a 6-0 win in game one. In game two the Wolves jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning before Northwest came back to take a 9-4 win.
Northwest 6, Co-Lin 0
Smith allowed four hits in six innings of work on Sunday. The Myrtle High School alum moved his record to 6-0 and picked up his second win of the season over Co-Lin. In the first matchup of the season between the two teams, on February 28 in Wesson, Smith gave up three hits in five innings to earn the win. Northwest won that game 13-1.
Adrian Brown carried the Co-Lin offense by going 2-4 with a double. Jeremy Moore, Reed Taylor, Bailey Warren, and Tanner Parvin all had a hit apiece for Co-Lin. Jamell Newsom led Northwest at the plate, finishing 2-2 with two RBIs. The Rangers scored two runs in the second inning, three in the third, and one run in the sixth.
Northwest outhit Co-Lin 14-6. Freshman Austin Douglas took the loss on the hill after giving up five runs on ten hits in 4.1 innings of action.
Northwest 9, Co-Lin 4
Co-Lin was able to bounce back from game one to quickly grab a lead in game two. The first two batters of the inning recorded outs for Co-Lin before Adrian Brown drew a walk. The next batter, Reed Taylor, also drew a walk. An error put Choc Hubbard aboard and had the bases loaded with Wolves. Brown then scored when Wesley Watts was hit by a pitch. A Bailey Warren single scored two more runs and Co-Lin led 3-0 after their first turn at the plate.
Co-Lin padded the lead with another run in the top of the second after a Jeremy Moore single scored Austin Irby. Irby had singled and reached base to lead off the inning. Northwest got two runs in the second inning, two in the third, three in the fifth, and two runs in the sixth inning.
Freshman Cole Langdon suffered the loss after surrendering seven runs (five earned) on eight hits in 4.1 innings.
Co-Lin (8-16, 1-9) plays their first home game in two weeks when they host East Central on Tuesday, March 31 at 4 p.m
