Wolfpack Eighth in Ron Marshall Spring Fling Tournament 
SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolfpack captured eighth place in the 14th annual Ron Marshall Spring Fling played on the Lake Course at Goose Pond Colony Resort. Twenty-one schools from around the country participated in the three-day event.
The Wolfpack shot their best golf of the tournament in the final round with a 295 to go along with their opening round of 302 and second round of 303. Their three-day score of 900 was three shots behind seventh place Meridian (288-312-297 – 897) and sixth place Walters (TN) State Community College (298-302-296 – 896).
Mesa (Ariz.) Community College (295-293-283—871), last year’s NJCAA Division II national runner-up, won the team title followed by Tyler (Texas) Junior College (292-300-288—880). Darton State (Ga.) College (294-297-293—884) along Mississippi Gulf Coast (292-299-293—884) tied for third place, while Rend Lake (Ill.) College completed the tournament’s top-five with a three-day total of 889 (299-295-295).
Taking individual medalist honors was Andreas Tancred, of Andrew College (GA), who fired a 5-under-par 67 in the final round for a three-day total of 212 (72-73-67). Zach Bialik of Grand Rapids CC (70-75-70—215) and Rend Lake College’s Matt Greenfield (73-72-70—215) tied for second place.
Jacob Ross of Brookhaven led the Wolfpack finishing in a five-way tie for 13th with a three-day total of 220 (73-75-72). Teammate Ryan Desormeaux finished in a five-way tie for 28th with a 225 (74-77-74). Fellow sophomore Gregory Causey had consistent rounds of 76-76-74 to place tied for 33rd. Freshman Drake Nelson of Monticello shot 228 (74-77-77) tied for 43rd, Will Lee of Brookhaven finished at 230 (79-76-75) tied for 48th, Taylor Jelks shot 232 (79-76-77) tied for 55th and Cade Caughman finished at 233 (78-78-77) tied for 59th.
Serving as an NJCAA Division II preview event in advance of the May 19-22 national tournament, this year’s Ron Marshall Spring Fling field featured eight teams currently ranked in the top 10 of the Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll as well as five other schools that placed among the top 12 during last year’s NJCAA Division II National Championship. In addition, 16 of the 21 schools that competed this week at Goose Pond Colony are ranked among the top 25 in Golfstat’s most recent NJCAA Division II national team rankings.
The Wolfpack will resume Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges’ (MACJC) play on March 23-24 in the third event at Dancing Rabbit in Philadelphia. East Central Community College will serve as the tournament host.
