Magee High School P-16 Council hosted a breakfast early morning Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Magee High School Library. Members from the community, businesses, administrators, Simpson County School Board, Board of Supervisors, Mayor, City Leadership, and parents were all invited to attend. Approximately 50 people were present.
Rev. Ralph Walker, president, of the P16 Council welcomed everyone and gave an over site of what was happening at Magee High School. 
Dr. Dewayne Middleton, Vice President Copiah Lincoln Community College, and Dr. Anika Floyd spoke on dual enrolment and how important it was for students to take these classes though Co-Lin. Co-Lin features a class for students struggling to pass state test. The class is called Dual Alternative Pathway. The class helps the kids to focus on Biology I and English Comp 1. Co-Lin strives to have a program that will fit all students. Three former graduates of Magee High School and Copiah Lincoln Community College, Josh Fairchild, Soumya Middleton, and Caleb Lee, spoke to the ones present how important dual enrolment is and how taking these classes in high school has jumped started their education pathway. 
Head Coach and Athletic Director Teddy Dyess spoke on Athletics and how being an athlete impacts the students in a positive manner. Dyess stated “if you do not have love you have nothing.” Dyess expressed it is their job as coaches and educators to love these children unconditionally. Show them someone cares and teach them how to be respectful. Dyess stated “the best part of some kids day is to come to school where they know someone cares and loves them.” Coach Dyess recognized Dakiya Walker as being a back to back State Champion in hurdles for 3A. Coach Dyess stated there will be six students signing letters of intent to play ball collegiately next Wednesday. 
Coach Dyess introduced his softball coach Nick Hillman. Nick spoke and stated he had a good group of respectful young ladies. Most of these students are honor students. Nine ladies are high honors. Hillman has ladies that are playing four sports. The girls are buying in to his program and they are working well together. Hillman hopes to see great things begin to evolve in the softball program.
Coach Dyess introduce baseball Coach Eubanks. Coach Eubanks is no stranger to the area. Coach Eubanks led his boys last year to the state championship game. The team placed second in the state. A milestone achieve that no other baseball team has done at Magee. Coach Eubanks motto is 1% better each day. Eubanks loves his athletes and wants only the best for these guys. He sets high expectations and expects them to achieve them academically and athletically. Eubanks holds his players accountable for their performance on and off the field. He encourages all baseball players to be honor students. Last year the team finished with a 3.23 team GPA this year the team is on tract to date with improvement of a 3.4 team GPA.
Athletes from football, baseball, soccer, track and band all spoke on how important the extra curricular activities have had a positive role in their education.
Student Body President Emily Reed spoke on how Magee is the preparing the students for college. Reed stated she has taken dual enrolment classes and workshops to better prepare her for the ACT. Reed considers Magee High School students as family. “Out of all the words in the world to describe Magee High School family is the one that comes to mind” Reed sated. Reed feels confident that when she leaves Magee to further her education she will have no problems adjusting with the ground work that has been laid for her in high school. 
Several parents and community leaders spoke on positives that are occurring at Magee. Dr. Tom Duncan, Principal at Magee High, thanked everyone for coming and allowing him to be a part in their child’s life at Magee. Dr. Duncan expressed his door was open and any one with concerns are welcomed at any time.
