Initiative 42:
It’s not about children – it’s about POWER.
What does Initiative 42 actually do?
It takes policy-making decisions away from locally elected legislators and gives it to a single judge in the Jackson area.
That single judge would become a super-legislator, able to make unchecked policy decisions affecting far more than education.
For instance, a $201-million increase in K-12 education funding – as estimated by the Legislative Budget Office – would mean drastic cuts in other priorities, like infrastructure and higher education, or significant tax hikes.
Why do they want to amend the Constitution?
Initiative 42 is bankrolled by liberal groups from Washington, D.C. who represent a parade of pro-abortion, anti-traditional marriage, union, and extremist environmental organizations. These are the same groups that helped get Barack Obama into the White House.
The Left has had success in pushing their agenda in the courts – such as same-sex marriage and ObamaCare. Initiative 42 is a test case for a similar strategy in strong Republican-led states.
What have Republicans done for Mississippi public education?
Under Republican leadership, Mississippi public schools are funded at their highest level in our state’s history.
Republicans have passed significant reforms, such as charter schools and the third grade reading gate. Republicans have prioritized funding to give teachers the second largest pay increase in state history, improve literacy, and ensure classrooms have the supplies they need.
What can we do to keep D.C. Liberals out of Mississippi classrooms?
Make sure your friends, family, and fellow Republicans know the truth about Initiative 42.
Make sure you all vote AGAINST BOTH and then FOR ALTERNATIVE INITIATIVE 42A.

This is nothing but an editorial point of view and I do not understand how editorials are city news when it is the opposite of that. We need more coverage of alderman meetings and zoning commission hearings. I like to see how much money the city has collected in sales tax for each money something we got covered in old Magee Courier when it was own by Tom Dickson and that paper was better back then and what it is today. I loved to see your site add polls like what types of business does Magee needs? I love to see follow up stories on new business coming to Magee.
