The upcoming election for Mississippi House District 77 is bringing new faces into a seat that has been held by a familiar name for the past several years.
The Republican Women of Simpson County recently hosted a candidate forum, giving local residents an opportunity to meet candidates seeking the District 77 seat formerly held by the late Rep. Price Wallace.
Wallace, a Mendenhall Republican who had represented District 77 since 2018, died unexpectedly in June at age 64. His death created the vacancy that voters will decide in a special election November 3. District 77 includes portions of Simpson and Rankin counties.
Those participating in the forum included Christopher Dunn, Melissa Sullivan and Craig Williams.
The special election is officially nonpartisan, meaning candidates will appear on the ballot without party labels. Four candidates qualified for the race, including Dianne Gaddis.
For a community, elections are about more than names on a ballot. They are an opportunity to meet the people who want to represent us, hear what they believe, and decide who best understands the needs of the district.
The Republican Women of Simpson County continue to provide a place for those conversations.
The group meets on the first Thursday of each month, and the meetings are open to the public. Lisa Givens serves as president. Both men and women are welcome to join.
In a time when local voices matter, having an opportunity to meet candidates face-to-face is an important part of being an informed voter.
