Joe Barnes died Wednesday. With his death goes valuable history of Magee and Magee High School. Every time I had a question about Trojan football, I called Joe and Joyce. These two were on the list for interviewing quit often. If we were not talking football, we were discussing Magee history. As a graduate of Magee High School, he never lost his love for the Trojans. I think he bled red and gray.
Joe and Joyce were known as the “Sears” people. They were in business from 1968-1993 (25 Years). They were married for 63 years—Joyce was Joe’s high school sweetheart! Always a family man, Joe enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Members of his fine family are: Robbie Barnes (Melissa), Angie Barnes, and Sandie Barnes Winters (Stephens); his Brother-in-Law Otto Walker, and family, Sister-in-Law Faye Tew, and family; five grandchildren, LauraLyn Barnes Barr, Whitney Barnes Baker (Brad), Hamilton Winters (Alix), Hollin Winters, and Hallie Winters. He was also blessed with six great-grandchildren who adored their “Pap”, Kaylea Barr, Meredith Barr, Sutton Barr, Laura James Baker, Barnes Baker, and Kadie Ruth Baker.
Joe loved his church, his Sunday School, and the men’s Brotherhood.
I will miss his smile and his knowledge. I know Joyce’s heart is broken. They were loved by many.
