W.D. was an active member and longtime Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in the Saratoga Community. A church that he supported and loved his entire life until January 12, 2016, when unfortunately he had a stroke and at that time has been a resident of the Collins Veterans Home which he loved them all and they loved him. Even though he never lost his desire to return to his home on (as he called it) Mannie Hill. He considered the VA his home where he spent his last years hopping from room to room reading his Bible and sharing God’s word with the unfortunate residents that could no longer read their Bibles.

W.D. is remembered for his remarkable wisdom and sharp mind until his death. He is described by many as a kind, honest but mainly a Godly man. W.D. was a simple man, things of this world didn’t mean a lot to him because he knew he would leave this world with nothing just as he came into this world. He loved music and would break out in a song in a minute.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Maxine. Brother Robert Dale Sullivan (Geneva) and Nephews Tommie Dale Sullivan and Robert Earl Sullivan.

Survives include – Nephew Richard Sullivan (Karen) of Laurel and Niece Patricia Sullivan Tucker, and a host of great-great nephews and nieces.

Although W.D. and Maxine were not fortunate enough to have children of their own, that was not the only surviving family he had and Mr. W.D. was quick to tell you he had another family that he loved and that loved him back and claimed them as his own. That surviving family included a daughter he would tell you was the daughter he never had and a son he depended on to carry on the family legacy and take care of our church that he loved so much. That family includes: Jenny Underwood (Craig), Dempsey Sullivan, and Ted Sullivan, Johnnie Foster (Tommy), and another host of children that he loved to spend time with when he was able to come home to the family gatherings and holiday’s.

Pallbearers: Dempsey Sullivan, Craig Underwood, Thomas Foster, Jon Meadows, and Stanley Eubanks.
