USM Accounting Students Meet with Potential Employers as Part of Special Event

Accounting students at The University of Southern Mississippi took full advantage of an opportunity to interact with prospective employers during a “Meet the Firms” event held Sept. 1 at the Trent Lott Center on the Hattiesburg campus.

A total of 24 firms/organizations participated in the event with approximately 110 accounting students and alumni in attendance. The event was co-sponsored by the College of Business and Career Services at Southern Miss.

Students were unanimous in their praise of the program. “I felt like it was a very rewarding experience and very glad I went and put myself out there,” said accounting major Natalie Rotenberry.

Senior Amy Miller noted: “Meet the Firms was such a fun experience. It was so great to be able to talk with different companies and firms and to get my resume out there. If you’re an accounting major, no matter what classification, I would definitely recommend attending.”

Senior Ben Jones added: “I was pleasantly surprised with the different geographic locations that the firms offered. I had a non-negotiable term that I wanted to work in Denver, and out of all the firms that attended, I discovered six that could accommodate my needs.”

Angela Gonzales, tax accountant with Palazzo & Company LLC, pointed out that “Meet the Firms” provided a unique opportunity to become acquainted with the students in their environment while sharing important insights about the firm.

“The students were prepared, professional, confident, and showed a lot of potential for future employment,” said Gonzales. “The turnout this year was larger than last year with both Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast students. We look forward to working alongside additional USM students & alumni.”
