Lamar jumped out to the early lead and never relinquished the lead all night long. A 66 yard run mid-way through the second quarter by Kyle Burney led to the first Simpson score of the night. Burney’s run carried the Cougars to the 7 yard line. After a few plays, Kyle was able to carry it into the end zone for a Simpson touchdown.

After that, Lamar put most of the points on the board. The Raiders put 21 unanswered points on the board, taking a commanding lead of 38-7 into the fourth quarter.

A great pass by Ethan Flynt and an even better catch by Bryce Caughman for a 19 yard touchdown, in the fourth quarter, closed the gap to 38-14. But it was too little too late for the Cougars. The Raiders, seething over multiple losses to the Cougars over the years, did everything they could to win the game.

Kyle Burney led the Cougars with 142 yards of rushing for 1 touchdown. Ethan Flynt completed 60% of his passes for 29 yards and 1 touchdown.

Caleb Garner led the defense with 6.5 tackles. Cook Weathersby and Andrew Kennedy each added 3 tackles apiece.

The Cougars will finally have the opportunity to play a home game, with the fourth game of the season. For the last three weeks, the Cougars have had to travel and play up in competition. Now they have the opportunity to play in front of a home crowd. Although, Simpson fans travel so well, that many times, Simpson has more fans than the home team.

The Cougars will host Leake Academy in their newly remodeled stadium. Longtime rivals, Leake and Simpson know each other well, having played many competitive ballgames.

Like the Cougars, Leake enters the ballgame with a 1-2 record. Their last contest resulted in a 35-14 loss to Indianola Academy. Their lone win on the season came against AA Sylva Bay Academy. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
