A deputy with the Simpson County sheriff’s department received a report of two men attempting to sell a stolen semi-truck to a nearby businessman. Later. Officers with Mendenhall PD attempted to stop the semi on US Highway 49. The passenger of the semi, identified as Bruce Parker, jumped from the vehicle while it was in motion and was apprehended by Mendenhall police officers and transported to a local hospital.  Simpson County deputies continued the pursuit through the Mendenhall, Martinville, and through the city of Magee.
The driver then drove the semi into a wooded area near the Simpson and Covington county line where he jumped from the vehicle and ran into the woods. Deputies surrounded the area and a K9 was deployed to track the suspect. Minutes later. Deputies apprehended the driver, identified as Tristan Scruggs. Scruggs was treated by EMS and transported to the Simpson County Adult Detention Center. Both Scruggs and Parker are facing numerous felony and misdemeanor charges.
