What seemed to be a very close game took a major turn after half and the Trojans came out on top bringing the gold ball back down Hwy 49 to Magee.
Magee beat Noxubee County by a score of 49-26 Friday, December 4, 2020. A large attendance followed the Trojans to Memorial Stadium. Fans were pumped and cheered the entire game for Magee. The East side stadium was a sea of red.
Magee kicked off to Noxubee to start the ballgame. Magee stopped Noxubee on 4th on 8 on Magee’s 35 yard line. Magee was forced to a 4th down and had to punt. Noxubee would scored on 42-yard pass with 7:09 left in the first quarter. The two-point conversion was no good The Tigers led by a score of 6-0.
With 3:13 left in the first quarter Magee scored on a 15-yard pass. The point after attempt by Gavyn Chafin was good. Magee took the lead by a score of 7-6.
With 1:16 left in the quarter Noxubee fumbled on their own 9-yard line. Magee recovered the fumble. On fourth down Magee’s #33 Keywhaun Ducksworth faked a punt from their own 20-yard line and ran it back to the Noxubee 33-yard line. #2 Chandler Pittman and #7 Xavier Franks connected on a 10-yard pass to score. The point after attempt was no good. Magee increased the score 13-6.
Noxubee would score on an 18-yard pass. The point after attempt was not good. Noxubee closes the gap by a score of 13-12.
Magee scored with 6:14 remaining in the half on quarter back keeper by #2 Pittman. The point after attempt by #11 Thomas Dyess was good. Magee increases the lead by a score of 20-13.
Noxubee answered quickly scoring on a 5-yard run. The two point conversion was good and the game was tied at 20-20.
Magee threw a pick close to the goal line. A flag was thrown on the play and Magee was given another chance and scored with :45 remaining before half on a rushing touchdown by Pittman. Magee attempted the point after and Noxubee was penalized. Magee scored the 2-point conversion by Pittman. Magee left for halftime in the lead by a score of 28-20.
Second half Magee would receive opening kick off. Magee drove the ball down the field 77 yards and scored on a pass from Pittman to #17 Kyerston Tucker. #35 Chafin’s PAT was good. Magee continues to increase the lead by a score of 35-20.
Noxubee fumbled on their own 25-yard line. Magee takes over and scores two plays later on a pass from Pittman to #1 Cayden Bridges. Chafin’s PAT was good. Magee lead by a score of 42-20.
Noxubee scored with 2:55 left in the third quarter on a rushing touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good. Magee on top by a score of 42-26.
With2:03 minutes left in regulation Magee was not finished. The Trojans crossed the goal line one last time to score. Chafin’s PAT was good and would lead 49-26. Magee would seal the win and become the State 3A Champions.
Chandler Pittman was awarded the player of the game by MHSAA.
Magee’s Thomas Dyess was awarded the scholar Athlete for 3A by MSHAA.
During the awards presentation Head Coach Teddy Dyess took to the sideline to absorb his boys celebrating the victory. Once the trophy was presented to Coach Dyess he immediately took the trophy walked from center field to the sideline to celebrated with the fans.
