TROJANS WIN HOMECOMING 50-6 OVER YAZOO CITY

The Homecoming Maids, Band and Cheerleaders were shining on Homecoming 2022.   The Defensive Backs for the Trojans decided to join the party with a brilliant performance by intercepting the Indians five times on the evening.   They were a catalyst for the big win by the Red and Gray.

Magee received the ball to start the game and it didn’t take long for the Trojans to get on the scoreboard.   Outstanding plays by Braeden Gregory, Kyerston Tucker and Demichael Green set the offense up in the red zone.    QB Tristan Newsome would show great patience in the pocket, finding Christian Hubbard for the touchdown.   PAT by Gavyn Chafin was good and the Trojans led 7-0.   On the kickoff, the senior kicker and coverage team would pin the Indians back on the 10.  They did this repeatedly on the night giving the Indians a long field to drive.   The Defense would bend but not break when DaQuon Levy had a beautiful interception.  Gregory would break through for 89 yards and the score only to be called back for holding away from the play.   In the same drive, the Trojans would drop what would have been a 60-yard touchdown pass by Newsome.   The Trojans would not let the two plays discourage them as Gregory, Green and Benson showed great vision on the ground setting the home team up in good position as the first quarter ended.

Trojans would score at the beginning of the second quarter and led 14-0.   On the Indians next drive, J’Kwon Gregory would get the INT and set up the Trojans on the Indians’ 48 yard line.   DeMichael Green would explode through the Defense for a Trojan touchdown and it was 21-0 after the PAT.   Tylan Benson would intercept for the Trojans on the next series, but the offense would stall and a field goal attempt was unsuccessful.  Yazoo City would score on their next drive.  The 2-point conversion would be no good and the score was 21-6 for the home team.  Tylan Benson set the Trojans up with a great kickoff return.  DeMichael Green would continue his great night and set up the offense inside the red zone.   Braeden Gregory would score on a 10-yard run and the Trojans led 28-6 after the PAT.   Chris Dinkins was determined to keep the Indians off the scoreboard with sack for the Trojans.    Gavin Drones would then follow up with an INT and Trojans would leave for halftime up 28-6.

Homecoming festivities at halftime focused on “WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER”.   Kymiah McCann would be crowned as Homecoming Queen for 2022.

Yazoo City would start at their own 15-yard line to begin the third quarter and the Defense forced a punt.  With good field position, the Trojans would make quick work of the Indians when Braeden Gregory scored on an 18-yard run.  PAT was again good by Chafin and the Trojans led 35-6.   On the next Indian possession, Drones would get his second INT of the evening and the Trojans fifth.    On the ensuing drive, Newsome would find Tucker on a 26-yard pass.  However, the Trojans would stall and punt for the first time.  Chafin, handling the punting duties, would help pin the Indians back at their 16-yard line.   The Defense would hold again and give the ball back to the Offense.  It didn’t take long when DeMichael Green would score on a 25-yard touchdown run.  It was 42-6 Trojans.   This is how the third quarter would end.

DeMichael Green continued his incredible evening, with a 50-yard punt return for a touchdown.   The Trojans would add a two-point conversion and the score was 50-6 for the Red and Gray.  With a running clock, this is how the game would end.

The Trojans would show growth on this night on the offensive side with a balance attack.   The O-Line of Kurt Thurman, Dylan Harper, Chris Dinkins, KyShawn Ducksworth, Amar Harper and Hunter Barnes showed improvement throughout the game.    Magee looks for continued growth on both sides of the ball as they begin district play at McLaurin Friday night at 7:30 p.m.   Coach Maxie, his staff and players would appreciate the support from the community.   They are working hard to represent their school and city.   Get the family and make the short trip up Highway 49.  Wear red and be loud!
