Jewel Purser Harper, 85, passed away at her residence on July 8, 2026. She was born to Breland Purser and Pearlie Runnels on September 13, 1940, in Magee, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Breland Purser and Pearlie Runnels; brothers, Judene Purser, Willie Ray Purser, and Johnnie Cecil Purser; and sister, Mary Nell Amason.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Thomas L. Harper; son, Charles Anthony Thornton; daughter, Angela Harper Walters; sisters, Sandra Diann Ware and Peggy Jean Thornton; and grandson, Logan Andrew Walters.
Jewel was always very family-oriented. She was known as the family’s peacemaker. She loved everyone and cared for anyone who was around her. Jewel was a great host and enjoyed inviting friends and family to her home for visits. Jewel also had many talents including wood carving, sewing, and other assorted crafts. She was an amazing cook. There was nothing she could not do if she set her mind to it. She did her best to take care of all of us. Jewel Grace will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
