The Magee Trojans suffered a tough loss to a strong Raleigh football team in a conference game at Raleigh on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Raleigh started the night strong with an early touchdown to lead 7-0 at the very beginning of the first quarter.

With seven minutes to go in the quarter, #2 Deuce Carter scored on a run, and with a good point after attempt, the Raleigh Lions led 14-0. The Lions didn’t stop there and ended the first quarter leading 21-0.

Magee’s defense held Raleigh to 0 points during the third quarter, but the Trojans missed an opportunity by failing to convert when they had the ball on Raleigh’s 7-yard line.

#2 Connor Pittman and #12 Zyrenzo Hayes both intercepted passes to keep Raleigh from increasing its lead before halftime.

The Trojan defense again held the Lions for most of the third quarter, but Magee missed opportunities to score from within the 10-yard line, finally scoring when a pass was completed to Pittman for a touchdown with three minutes to go in the quarter. The point after attempt was no good.

Raleigh answered with a touchdown by Carter with about a minute to go in the quarter. The point after was good, and the Lions led the Trojans 28-6 at the end of the third.

Early in the fourth quarter, #6 Jaylin Owens rushed for a touchdown, and the point after was good. Raleigh won 35-6.

Coach Chase Courtney had the following to say:

“A really tough game against a very talented Raleigh team. I felt like we started timid and slow, that, coupled with penalties, caused us to stay behind the chains the entire first half. We were down 21-0 before we realized we were in a game. So much goes into preparing for a game; you always want to play your best, and when you don’t feel like that happens, it stings. Like I told our kids, I felt like that game was a good barometer of where we are. We have to get so much better in all facets of the game. That was not the standard we are used to playing to. From coaching all the way to water boys, we are going to use this bye week to get better, improve, and refocus. We will be playing our last regular season game at home, Oct 30th vs a very good Seminary team.”
