Co-Lin FBLA students shine on national stage with multiple Top 10 finishes

On Friday, March 24th, the Trojans traveled to McLaurin to face one of the top pitchers in the South 3A, Davis Bradshaw.   The Trojans would counter with outstanding freshman, Landon Hayes, on the mound. Hayes would outduel Bradshaw allowing only 2 hits in a complete game victory. This victory was not without drama and kept the fans on the edge of their seats.

The game was scoreless until the top of the 6th inning when the Trojans would plate one. McLaurin would score two in the bottom of the 6th to set up a gutsy comeback by the young Trojans.   With one out and Jaden Chatman down 0-2 to Bradshaw, the outstanding centerfielder for the Trojans would fight off pitch after pitch and eventually earn a walk to spark the Red and Gray.   This at bat is something you won’t see in the box scores or show up on the ESPN highlights, but it is the type of effort that helps build a championship team.   Keshun Collier would follow-up with a walk and then Caleb Brown, who was 4 for 4 on the night would lace a triple to right field and the Trojans were up 3-2.   The Trojans would add two more runs and led 5-2 going into the bottom of the 7th.

McLaurin would fight back and score two in the bottom of the 7th and had the tying run on the third with two outs but Landon Hayes would shut the door by striking out the last batter.   This was a big District win for the Trojans and secured the sweep of the division series.

The Trojans continued to hit the ball well collecting 10 hits on the night with Caleb Brown, Dalton Cockrell and Seth Russell having multiple hits.

On March 28th, the Trojans traveled to Raleigh to face the Lions.   Tucker Sobczak was on the mound for the Trojans and he would get Magee off to a great start pitching 3 plus solid innings, striking out 4 and only allowing 2 hits. The Trojans led 5-1 after 4 innings with Jaden Chatman hitting his first home run of year in the second. Chatman would lead the Trojans with 3 RBIs on the evening.

Going into the bottom of the 7th, the Trojans led 7-4 and were poised for another district victory. However, anyone that follows baseball knows that momentum can change on a dime and Raleigh scored 4 in the bottom of the 7th to claim an 8-7 victory.   The Trojans would outhit the Lions 10-6 but three errors would hurt the Trojans. Seth Russell, Caleb Brown and Jaden Chatman would have multiple hits for the Trojans.

There is no doubt that this team is working hard and have a passion to bring excitement to their school and city. This was evident as you saw their disappointment Tuesday night, but they are determined to work harder and bounce back. The team is asking that you help pack the stadium Friday night, March 31st, as they face Raleigh in the second game of the series at home, 6:30 p.m. (JV begins at 4:30 p.m.) Bring your family and enjoy a night of exciting baseball.
