In the first round of the MHSAA playoffs, the Magee Trojans hosted the Hazlehurst Indians at Trojan field. The Trojans showed up and showed out in all phases of the game, taking an early lead and not looking back!

Trojan fans brought their A game in the stands. Our student section was alive with noise and support! Baby powder was used to celebrate Trojan touchdowns as well as noise makers and red accessories. Fans were on their feet supporting our boys!

The game started off with Josh Sanders, #1, completing a 6 yard touchdown, Ross McInnis, #5, completing a 12-yard touchdown, a team safety, and Josh Sanders, #1, completing a 35-yard punt return for the touchdown.  Sam Rials, #19, came through and earned all 3 PATs. At the end of the first quarter, the Trojans led 23-0.

The crowd was alive with hopefulness! The optimistic look on the fans’ faces gave the Trojan athletes a reason to keep on scoring.

The Hazlehurst Indians scored twice early in the second quarter. The Indians hit the long ball with a 95 yard TD pass bringing the score to 23-12. However, the Trojan offense struck again with a long TD passes from quarterback Javo Thurman, #3. Ross McInnis, #5, completed a 24-yard run, Matthew Thurman, #13, completed a 35-yard reception, and Josh Sanders, #1, completed a 38-yard reception. Sam Rials, #19, completed two of the three PATs for the Trojans. Ending the first half the Trojans keep their lead with a score of 44-12.

After a great performance by our award winning band, The Pride of Simpson County, the third quarter started, and it was all Trojans the rest of the way! Hazlehurst would score in the third and fourth quarters.  However, Magee’s Chandler Pittman, #2, completed a 6-yard run for the touchdown bringing the final score to Magee 50-Hazlehurst 24.

The Trojans will play the undefeated Winona Tigers this Friday, November 9, 2018, in their second round of 2018 MHSAA playoffs!
