Jackson, MS.  Today, registration opened for the sixth annual College Savings Mississippi Art Contest. Running January 7 through February 28, 2019, students across Mississippi can compete for over $3,600 in Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) scholarships by submitting an original piece of art on the theme, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

“Each year, this art contest challenges children to look toward their futures and dream about all the opportunities ahead of them,” said Treasurer Lynn Fitch. “And, College Savings Mississippi helps them save for the education they need to achieve those dreams.”

The contest is open to any Mississippi student from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th Grade, whether in a classroom, through an afterschool program, or by homeschooling.  Like last year, the classroom or teacher with the most entries will win an additional $100 MACS scholarship to be distributed in the manner he or she determines.

“College Savings Mississippi’s mission is to help families stretch their savings dollar to help them achieve their education goals,” Treasurer Fitch continued. “The art contest and other promotional contests throughout the year not only introduce families to MACS, but also give our student winners a jumpstart on their own savings accounts.”

A $529 Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) scholarship will be awarded to the first place contestant in each of the following age categories: Pre-Kindergarten – 2nd Grade, 3rd – 5th Grades, 6th – 8th Grades, and 9th – 12th Grades.  A second place prize of a $250 MACS scholarship and third place prize of a $100 MACS scholarship will also be awarded in each age category.
Students in Pre-Kindergarten through 5th Grade are asked to submit their artwork on an official entry form.  Students in 6th – 12th Grades are asked to submit their original 8.5” x 11” artwork using a medium of their choice.
