Treasurer Lynn Fitch and College Savings Mississippi
Celebrate 529 Day All Month Long with Matching Campaign

“Open a $100 account, get $50 more from MACS!”

Jackson, MS. On May 29, 2016, state-sponsored college savings plans across the country will be celebrating “529 College Savings Day,” a day to recognize the importance of saving for college. This year, Treasurer Lynn Fitch and College Savings Mississippi are celebrating “529 Day” all month long with a MACS (Mississippi Affordable College Savings) matching campaign.

“Our goal is to help families across Mississippi be prepared for the rising cost of college expenses,” said Treasurer Lynn Fitch. “To help raise awareness, we are holding a matching campaign throughout the month of May. It is our hope this provides families with the extra support they need to start saving. When parents take that first step in investing in their child, they are investing in the future of their student and in the future of our state,” continued Fitch.

Beginning on Sunday, May 1, 2016, when eligible MACS plan purchasers open an account with $100 and sign up for automatic contributions, MACS will add $50 after three months. If an individual already has a MACS account, and even if they already contribute regularly through automatic contributions, they can still participate in this match offer, too. To learn more about the matching campaign and for official rules, please visit www.treasurerlynnfitch.com. The matching campaign ends May 31, 2016.

“We want people to take that important first step and open an account,” said Fitch. “If you open an account in May with just $100, and you sign up to keep contributing – even as little as $25 per month, MACS will give your student another $50!”

College Savings Mississippi is a division of the State Treasurer’s Office and operates the two state-sponsored 529 college savings plans, MACS and MPACT (Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition). For more information about these plans, visit www.treasurerlynnfitch.com.
