The count down is on for mailing Christmas packages! I visited with Candy Maddox, clerk at the Magee Post Office, Tuesday morning. Candy explained, “get those packages to the PO as soon as you can!” Candy said the heaviest mailing day of the holiday season is Monday, December 16th. “We can get your packages by Christmas if you meet these deadlines, ” laughed Candy! Although Priority Main is running maybe a day later than usual, Priority Main delivery is the best option for a 3-4 day delivery which includes a tracking number as well as $50 insurance. (additional insurance may be added to the package). Express or Over night mail is available but is more expensive.
Magee Post Office is blessed with a Postmaster who cares…Trish Bar…and clerks who want to help you: Candy, Ray, and Jason. Santa Clause has been know to assist when the times are tough!
One of the rural route carriers told me that actually our post office has not slowed down since last Christmas! The post office delivers for Amazon which can add as many as 180 package a day to an already “package” full post office.
What can you do to help? Keep the area in front of your mail box clear—no cans or cars. Remind children not to approach the mail carrier. Be sure your packages are addressed fully with a send and return address. Tape your packages securely…use clear tape and always tape the open seals of a box. I always put a piece of clear tape over the address I am sending the package…the extra tape should avoid a “runny” address incase of rain.
I asked Candy about mailing food. She assured me if an item is frozen and packaged well, the item should reach its destination. If you are dying to send Christmas cookies to your grands…do so…just wrap the cookies inside a tin and then wrap the tin with bubble wrap. These packages are traveling along way as they go over the hill and through the valley to grandma’s house!
