*Andy Mundy is a graduate of Simpson Academy and Delta State.  Andy and my oldest son, Dickey (who has my maiden name!) are very good friends.  In fact, Andy’s mama, Diane McAlpin lives right here in Magee!  Andy just has a way with words.

I love reading his post on FB…now, most of the time…the post are hysterical and might even make one blush…but Andy has the touch…the touch of the pen…

“There are no silver linings in days like today. There just aren’t. But, as I sit and I scroll through my timeline reading post after post I realize that there is a common bond I am lucky enough to share with so many of you. A little dot on the map. The most unassuming place in the world. The poorest area in the country that sits on top of the richest soil on the planet. A place where everyone knows there “isn’t much to do.” Not much to do but talk and laugh and mostly, more than anything: to love. There is more love in The Mississippi Delta than anywhere I have ever been. You see that today. There are no hills for the tears and hurt to roll down. So they sit with you. Right at your feet. Like the mud. As I read I see pictures old and new of so many of you. And, I think about how we were all just kids with nothing to do but laugh and love. Now, we deal with things like death and the next generation. Days like today remind us that you are never promised a tomorrow. Hug those closest to you. Tell them you love them. I promise they love you back. They are too Mississippi not to.”
