Theda Pearce Berry, age 87, a retired teacher and business owner, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Plainview Assisted Living Home in Richland, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee on Thursday, June 23, 2016. Friday, June 24, 2016, visitation at 10:00 a.m. with services at 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Magee. Interment will follow in City of Magee Cemetery.
Mrs. Theda P. Berry was born to the late, Zollie and Irma (Simmons) Pearce in Brooklyn, Mississippi, on August 5, 1928.
She wed E.O. Berry on April 6, 1951. They ran a successful business, E. O. Berry Motor Company Inc., E. O. Berry Salvage Yard Inc., and Berry Realty, LLC together until her husband’s death.
Mrs. Berry, known as the “Christmas Light Lady of Magee,” was very active in her community. She was the “Bicentennial Queen” of Simpson County, member of the Simpson County Country Club, where she served as past president and past member of the City of Magee Zoning Committee. Her past accomplishments, also include being a member of the University of Southern Mississippi tennis and synchronized swim teams.
Mrs. Berry is preceded in death by her parents, Zollie and Irma (Simmons) Pearce; her husband, E. O. Berry; brother, Ty Pearce; brother-in-law, Herman Williams.
Mrs. Berry’s survivors include; sons, Dale (Keilah) Berry and Hal (MeLisa) Berry; brother, Joe (Rachel) Pearce; sisters, Ellen (Marion) Walker, Patty Williams; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Rudy Runnels, Dr. Thomas Blackledge, and the staff of Plainview Assisted Living.
