The Void Has Been Filled
Anywhere you go in Simpson County, most likely, you will come in contact with someone who knows the history and traditions of Simpson County Football!!!
Both Magee and Mendenhall football teams proved to the State they are still around this football season.
When Magee hired Coach Teddy Dyess the vision was to return to the winning program of many years’ past.
Coach Teddy Dyess has achieved that goal. If you have never met Coach Dyess, he is an honorable man. He cares about these kids on and off the field. He instills leadership, responsibility, and a hard work ethic.
Coach Dyess did not let the end of Spring and a pandemic shut down stop him from coaching his boys. He would text and ask them to continue to work hard at home during the off time by practicing sprints, going to gyms if available, and just staying in the routine of working out. His boys did just that.
Magee Football has brought some much needed happiness to an extremely difficult year.
Coach Dyess never wants to be the center of attention! It is all about the kids and not him!
In interviews, he will encourage the students to conduct when possible. He avoids pictures and any attention to himself. That showed Friday. As soon as Coach Dyess received the banner from Farm Bureau he immediately left the huddle and went to the side-line to watch and absorb his athletes celebrating. Dyess was asked to come to center field for the trophy presentation. As soon as the handoff took place, Dyess walked rapidly to the side-lines with the trophy tucked tight and held up the Golden Ball for the fans. After their celebration, he then handed the trophy off to the athletes.
The week leading into the State Championship game, the community showed their appreciation for the team. Everyone wanted to be a part in the celebration from food, Gatorade, appreciation and good luck signs, to cheering send-off parties.
Coach Dyess is tough on and off the field, but at the same time has a great time. He pumps his kids up and is always encouraging them. He holds back on “chewing” during a game if an athlete does wrong! He will address the issue and will explain why he is reprimanding the individual at the appropriate time. He takes situations and makes them coaching and teaching opportunities. He is the team’s biggest cheerleader.
Dyess has developed a great coaching staff and works well with them.
Thank you Coach Dyess for believing and returning the winning tradition so longed for at Magee High School Athletes.
