By James Davis
The Scriptural passage for today is found in Romans 8:6: “The mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.” The apostle is stating to the early church a basic Christian principle: rely on the Holy Spirit for guidance and comfort. We know that Jesus promised to send a Comforter before He ascended into Heaven to be with His Father, and that Comforter is part of the Trinity: the Holy Spirit. We have the Spirit as part of our very being once we accept Jesus and receive His gift of salvation. The Spirit will lead us, guide us, and comfort us. Let’s never forget that great Power we have at our disposal. “Come, Holy Spirit, I need thee. Come, sweet Spirit, I pray. Come in Thy strength and Thy power. Come in Thy own gentle way.” I love that wonderful prayer of supplication, penned by Bill Gaither, one of the great gospel songwriters of our day.
Okay, we know our charge for the day: share with others the love, joy, and kindness in the same measure God shares all three with us, His children. Not that we can match God in giving and sharing, but we can do our part to the best of our ability. Let us not be stingy.
