The Covington County Genealogical and Historical Society announces its October meeting:
October 17th, 2026 at 10:00 AM
 
Do you want to find buried treasure? On October 17th, 2026, come to the Seminary Train Depot at 10:00 AM to hear the history of metal detecting, the basics, rules of detecting, where to, how to, and what you can find. Andy Parker and Shannon Cheshier will present the program and will share some of their best finds.
Andy Parker is a retired Arborist from the City of Hattiesburg, has over 30 years of metal detecting experience and is a 5th generation Marion Countian. Shannon Cheshier has experience in entrepreneur-Antiques and Salvage, is originally from West Tennessee, and brings with him 11 years of metal detecting experience. Parker and Cheshier are both members of the South Mississippi Relic Team.
The program will begin at 10:00 AM and is open to the public.  For more information, call Janet Smith at 601-947-4610 or June Ellis at 601-797-3233. You can email Smith at ponder97@bellsouth.net.
The Covington County Genealogy Library, located in the Seminary Train Depot is open Tuesdays from 9:00 AM till 12:00 PM and before and after every meeting.
