For 104 years, the Bolivar Commercial has been in business in Cleveland, MS printing an edition on Wednesdays and Fridays.

At the end of April, the newspaper will cease publication.

Delta State University is located in Cleveland.  The area has a poverty rate of higher than 25%.

“We don’t have the option to compete against that business model because we are held to a higher standard,” he said. “Based on very objective statistics, it is clear that people are choosing social media and to give up their privacy, over community journalism.”

This news makes me sad.  Seeing any business closes is heart breaking.
