A bright sun shiny day was in store for the Magee Chamber of Commerce Tea in the Garden held at the McAlpin House on 2nd Avenue in Magee. Gloria Lucas graciously offered her home for this annual event.

Literally, bus loads of people came! Two buses from Jackson were early birds along with a steady stream of people from all over the state of Mississippi. The event features venders from surrounding areas, delicious food, and a chance to meet Wyatt Waters and observe him painting. Wyatt painted a lovely water coloring of the McAlpin House. I don’t think anyone more than Susan Hall enjoyed watching the renowned artist. Susan is also a water color painter and enjoyed studying Wyatt’s techniques.

The Gardens of the McAlpin House were filled with interesting items for sale. Val Pottery (Valerie Norris) displayed beautiful pieces of pottery she created. From necklaces to platters to crosses to bowls…Valerie had a wide assortment of her wares.

The Christian Women Job Corps of Simpson County had their famous cookbook on sale for $10 and
extended an invitation to their Spring Tea which will be held April 30th.

Danny and Becky Cook process a most unusual talent…creating objects from pine needles. Their baskets are unique in everyday…each basket is handmade! The pieces were amazing. The Cooks are members of the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi.

Rubie’s Daughters displayed a variety of handmade creations. The workmanship in each item was impressive.RubiesDaughters

Gina Miller and Betty Magee shared a booth. Gina creates exquisite knitted clothing and scarves. She is one talented Simpson County lady. Betty is the quilt lady! Her works are treasure…something one would keep for a lifetime. One particular piece caught my eye…the colors and texture were unique.   BettyMageeQuilt

Lady Jane’s of Flora had a bright booth with all things Spring and Easter. The booth was front and center in the front garden (yard) of the McAlpin house…the beautiful sunshine kept her items “in the spotlight.” LadyJaneFlora

I had no idea Karen Brewer was “into” jewelry. Her pieces are made of rare and unique stones. Karen uses tassels in several pieces of her jewelry.

Brittany Milton of “Jamberry” demonstrated a very different type item…stick on nail covers (now I am sure there is a proper name…but that is the best way for me to describe!). I have never seen this procedure. One just wraps the design around their nail…use a blow dryer..and your nails are done! She had quite a book of pattern choices plus a great cuticle oil. Brittany is not just about nails…she sells lotions and other sweet smelling items!  Jamberry

Mona Magee, along with her daughter, had a fabulous display of Premiere Jewelry at great prices. Mona offered a wide selection in jewelry.

What are “gardens” without greenery??? Gracie Maddox, daughter of Allen and Angela Maddox, was keeper of the lovely flowers at Angela’s. Ferns, palms, blooming plants, and a watering can filled with blooms were a delight to all plant lovers.

Debbie Marsh got your “sweet” tooth with her wide choice of homemade items perfect for Easter Baskets. Janie Walker found quite a few “sweets” for her crew! DebbieJanie

Chamber President Chris Purdum, chamber member Diane McPhail, and chamber executive director greeted everyone…and sold them a ticket (which also registered one for door prizes that were given out throughout the Tea).

I really don’t have words for the beauty of Gloria Lucas’ home…absolutely beautiful…Gloria has provided Magee with a showplace. Gorgeous flowers, unusual plants, and scrumptious food. Tables were available in the home and gardens.

Tea in the Garden is usually held on Good Friday…mark your calendar now to attend next year…friends, food, and fellowship…a wonderful beginning to the weekend.
