Ocean Springs, Miss.—Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann presented checks to county officials in two Gulf Coast counties today: $33,869.15 in tax-forfeited property sales in Hancock County, and $81,017.72 in Jackson County.
In the previous five years, Hancock County has received $512,928 and Jackson County has received $109,347 in tax-forfeited revenue.
“We have made it a priority to make it as easy as possible for people who are interested in buying property to view parcels and place a bid, and these efforts are paying off for our cities, counties, and schools,” Secretary Hosemann said.
Money raised through the sales of tax-forfeited property in Hancock County will be distributed in varying amounts to the Hancock County Chancery Clerk, Sheriff, and Board of Supervisors; the cities of Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead, and Waveland; and the Bay St. Louis-Waveland and Hancock County school districts.
Money raised through the sales of tax-forfeited property in Jackson County will be distributed in varying amounts to the Jackson County Chancery Clerk, Sheriff, and Board of Supervisors; the cities of Gautier, Moss Point, Oceans Springs, and Pascagoula; and the Jackson County, Pascagoula-Gautier, and Ocean Springs school districts.
In recent years, successful tax-forfeited auctions in Greenville, Greenwood/Leflore County, Hinds County, Jackson/Hinds County, McComb, Meridian, Pearl River County, Rankin County, Vicksburg, and Yazoo City have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Mississippi schools, cities, and counties.
An auction is current ongoing in Jones County, with bids accepted until 11:59 p.m. on October 31, 2018.
