Beginning our discussion on the TalkShow, we discussed some of the major national news items of the year. This year we lost two legends that served our country in the late 20th century, George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara. Also, a major loss for our country was the passing of Arizona Senator John McCain. Another big event was the confirmation hearing for Justice Kavanaugh. Changing to some more local events, there was a special election for House District 77. Price Wallace would go on to win the seat by achieving a narrow victory over Hayes Patrick. We also had two local races that were closely watched this November. The race for Constable Post 2 was won by Chris Jones, and the race for Justice Court Judge was very narrowly won by Charles Savell. The state also saw a Special Legislature Session in August that saw the lottery becoming legal in Mississippi. The lottery is expected to bring in up to 80 million in revenue and will be put towards infrastructure. Finally, in Sports this year we saw many local athletes perform in great ways! The SCA Softball Team won their second consecutive State Championship and the SCA Football Team competed in the State Championship. Mendenhall won the Simpson County Super Bowl and MSU won the Egg Bowl. At MageeNews.com, we can not wait to see what 2019 holds and we hope you will continue to support us.
