Supporters gathered Tuesday evening, September 9, 2025, at The McAlpin House in Magee, where Andy Gipson, Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, officially announced his candidacy for Governor of Mississippi.

A native of Simpson County, Gipson is no stranger to public service. From 2008 to 2018, he represented District 77 in the Mississippi House of Representatives before being appointed by Governor Phil Bryant as Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce in March 2018. In that role, Gipson has built a reputation as a proven conservative leader and strong advocate for Mississippi farmers, businesses, and families.
This summer, while visiting his son Joe in Montana, Gipson said he walked up a mountain with his Bible in hand to seek God’s direction. It was there, in quiet prayer, that he received clarity about his next step—running for governor. “I know without a doubt the Lord gave me peace about this decision,” Gipson shared with supporters.
Gipson emphasized faith, family, and conservative leadership as the foundation of his campaign. He and his wife Leslie have been married for 24 years and are the proud parents of four children: Joseph, Benjamin, Abigail, and Sarah.
The Magee event drew strong support from local community members, reflecting both Gipson’s Simpson County roots and the momentum of his statewide campaign.
