Deputy Michael Payne with the Simpson County Sheriff Office was honored by the Simpson County Board of Supervisors with a resolution and plaque honoring him for being named Top Cop 2021. Board President Randy Moore read the resolution during their regular scheduled meeting Monday, June 14th. Sheriff Mullins, Board of Supervisors, and Payne posed for a picture.
The board approved to hire two part-time employees and three full-time employees for the road department. The board approved to purchase a garbage bin for the road department at a cost of $230.00 and an $84.00 monthly agreement for 1-year. Road Manager Ben Warren stated “we hope to start the rock and tar project for the county later in the week weather permitting.”
Cyndi Robinson Cook and her boss Matthew met before the board concerning Marsy’s Law. The representatives are seeking support for Marsy’s Law. The Marsy’s Law would update the 1998 victims’ rights constitutional amendment by giving crime victims the ability to enforce their rights in a court of law if they feel they’ve been infringed upon during the criminal justice process. The board agreed to take the information under advisement.
Representatives from TEC Operations met before the board concerning broadband for the Simpson County. The project is coming to Simpson county in the year 2022. The plans are to lay 545 miles of fiber optic lines. The company is based out of Bay Springs, MS. The company is investing a huge amount of money in Simpson county to help reach the citizens with broadband coverage. For more information concerning TEC please click here.
ASAP reported there were a total of 420 calls in which 308 were 911 calls. The average response time for an ambulance was 13:39. The wait time at both hospitals are down and averaging 13:59. Over 400 calls are being made per month with 4 serving trucks in the area.
The board approved the cheapest bid of $45,265.50 from Helena for spraying chemicals on brush over 400 miles of county roads.
The board approved the appointment of Wendall James as Special Prosecutor in the case of State of MS vs Dena Dana Smith Ammons and State of MS vs Sandra Weeks Stein due to the recusal of County Prosecutor, Wesley Broadhead.
