Simpson County Sheriff Kenneth Lewis reports that on April 23, 2015, the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Simpson County Solid Waste stating that a county vehicle, a 2015 Dodge Ram 2500 had been stolen from their property located on Hwy 49. While investigating this theft, Simpson County investigators retrieved Fuelman reports which indicated that a Fuelman card belonging to Simpson County had been used at the Kangaroo service stations on Old Canton Rd and High Street locations in Jackson, MS. Simpson County Chief Deputy Bryan Buckley and Investigators Greg Reynolds and Joe Andrews went to the Old Canton Rd location where they retrieved video footage. While exiting I-55 at High Street, investigators observed the stolen truck belonging to Simpson County in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn. Two white males were attempting to pull another truck, a white Ford F350, as investigators entered the parking lot. As investigators requested assistance from Jackson Police Department, one subject, identified as Jonathan Dewayne Saltz, was taken into custody. The other suspect, later identified as Tray Allen Mitchell, fled the scene on foot, crossing I-55 South. Mitchell was quickly apprehended by MBN agents and placed in custody. Sheriff Lewis also noted that two additional stolen vehicles belonging to United States Environmental Services were also recovered at the scene. Lewis reported that Mitchell and Saltz are being held at the Simpson County Adult Detention Center pending further investigation.

Simpson County Officials Recover Stolen County Truck
A Fuelman credit card, belonging to Simpson County, lead investigators to the recovery of a stolen county truck and two other stolen government vehicles yesterday, April 23rd, 2015.
According to Sheriff Kenneth Lewis, a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500, belonging to the Simpson County Solid Waste Department, was reported stolen from the property located on Highway 49 Thursday, April 23, 2015.
Investigating the auto-theft, Simpson County officials obtained the Fuelman credit card activity reports which revealed unauthorized purchases from two Kangaoo service stations in the Jackson metro area. Simpson County Chief Deputy, Lt. Bryan Buckley, and Investigators Greg Reynolds and Joe Andrews then travelled to the first store location on Old Canton Road, where they obtained video surveillance footage. As investigators exited I-55, heading to the second Kangaroo store, located along High Street, they observed the stolen truck in the parking lot of Red Roof Inn.
Requesting assistance from Jackson Police Department, investigators then pulled into the parking lot of the inn, where two white males were seen, attempting to pull another truck, a white Ford F-150. One of the two suspects, identified at Jonathan Dewayne Saltz, was immediately taken into custody by police.
The second suspect, later identified as Tray Allen Mitchell, attempted to evade police as he fled the scene on foot, crossing I-55 South. Mitchell was apprehended by MBN agents shortly thereafter and placed under arrest.
Sheriff Lewis also reported that two additional stolen vehicles, belonging to United States Environmental Services, were also recovered at the scene.
Mitchell and Saltz are being held at the Simpson County Adult Detention Center pending further investigation.
