Simpson County Officials Recover Stolen County Truck

A Fuelman credit card, belonging to Simpson County, lead investigators to the recovery of a stolen county truck and two other stolen government vehicles yesterday, April 23rd, 2015.
According to Sheriff Kenneth Lewis, a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500, belonging to the Simpson County Solid Waste Department, was reported stolen from the property located on Highway 49 Thursday, April 23, 2015.
Investigating the auto-theft, Simpson County officials obtained the Fuelman credit card activity reports which revealed unauthorized purchases from two Kangaoo service stations in the Jackson metro area. Simpson County Chief Deputy, Lt. Bryan Buckley, and Investigators Greg Reynolds and Joe Andrews then travelled to the first store location on Old Canton Road, where they obtained video surveillance footage. As investigators exited I-55, heading to the second Kangaroo store, located along High Street, they observed the stolen truck in the parking lot of Red Roof Inn.
Requesting assistance from Jackson Police Department, investigators then pulled into the parking lot of the inn, where two white males were seen, attempting to pull another truck, a white Ford F-150. One of the two suspects, identified at Jonathan Dewayne Saltz, was immediately taken into custody by police.
The second suspect, later identified as Tray Allen Mitchell, attempted to evade police as he fled the scene on foot, crossing I-55 South. Mitchell was apprehended by MBN agents shortly thereafter and placed under arrest.
Sheriff Lewis also reported that two additional stolen vehicles, belonging to United States Environmental Services, were also recovered at the scene.
Mitchell and Saltz are being held at the Simpson County Adult Detention Center pending further investigation.
