Southern Pine Electric visits Simpson County Technical Center

To ensure students are educated about the importance of being safe around energized lines and other electrical appliances or circuits, Southern Pine Electric employee John Shoemaker came to speak with students at Simpson County Technical Center.

Shoemaker, an energy services technician, gave a presentation to students enrolled in the Agriculture and Natural Resources, Polymer Science and Construction/Carpentry programs. He demonstrated how dangerous playing with electricity can be and offered some ideas for staying safe and out of harm’s way. Students then watched live simulations on the hazards of contact with power lines and learned practical safety tips for avoiding dangerous situations.

During his visit, Shoemaker also taught students about the various ways to conserve electricity and safety procedures relating to electricity. They also watched a simulation of how electricity is made and conducted.
