April 17-19 was the first annual Smith County Weekend Camp at the Girl Scout Camp, Camp Wahi, in Brandon.

Two troops from Smith County met at Camp Wahi that Friday evening. Most of the girls participating in the weekend camp had never been to Camp Wahi.

One of the first things the girls did that Saturday was taking a walking tour of Camp Wahi. They went down to the Waterfall where each girl had their picture taken, down to the Camp Fire Circle, and to the Chapel site. After lunch, the girls met back up at Great Hall (the dining hall) and split into groups. Each group worked on a craft and learned basic first aid. They then all came back together and listened as Janet explained the meaning of folding the flag and what each fold represented. Each girl got to participate in practicing folding the flag.

Later that evening, the rain came. But, that didn’t stop the Girl Scouts! They all met back up at Great Hall after supper for a movie. The plan was to go to the Camp Fire Circle and learn/sing Girl Scout songs and have S’Mores, but, due to the strong rain moving in, the activities were moved inside.

The girls picked a movie to enjoy together. While the movie was going, the girls, two at a time, were called back into the kitchen area where they were able to roast a marshmallow and fix a S’More.

Thanks to the other troop leader attending, we had an indoor S’More maker! Each girl had their picture taken while making a S’More.

On Sunday morning, the girls were suppose to meet at the Chapel site for a devotion and more Girl Scout songs. But, due to the rains the night before, the service was moved back to Great Hall. A short devotion was read and then the girls learned 4-5 Girl Scout songs. Camp was closed with the traditional Girl Scout Friendship Circle, the singing of Taps, and the squeezing of the hands. Lots of memories were made by the girls, and the leaders, that attended. The girls voted to have another weekend camp next year.

Troop 7341 from Mize attending Girl Scout Camp at Camp Wahi. Members of the troop, in no particular order, are: Allie Anderson, Sarah Powell, Sophia Jackson, Lauren Runnels, Bailey Wedgeworth, Macey Wilson, and Ryah Tubbs. The leader is Janet Runnels. Pictures were taken at the Camp Fire Circle and at the bridge at Great Hall.
