Simpson General donates medical supplies to Co-Lin Workforce Education
WESSON – Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall donated approximately $19,000 worth of discontinued and expired medical supplies to Workforce district health care programs for hands-on practices. These items will be put to good use in our programs such as CNA, CCMA, EMT-Basic, as well as, CPR and IV Therapy classes.
“Simpson County General Hospital is happy to help our future workforce anyway possible,” said David Welch, hospital administrator.
Simpson General has been a long-time partner of Copiah-Lincoln Community College within the Career, Technical and Workforce Education division. They provide licensed practical nursing (LPN) students with approximately 150 hours of required clinical training. Students and instructors are able to utilize the medical-surgical unit, lab, clinic, mental health unit, and emergency room for hands-on learning. They also allow LPN students to complete the 45 transition hours needed prior to graduation under the direction of a licensed nurse at their facility. Additionally, Simpson General hosts Workforce’s not-for-college credit Emergency Medical Technician Program students as they fulfill their required clinical hours. Earlier this year, Simpson General Hospital was awarded the 2019 Co-Lin Business & Industry President’s Award for their notable contributions to the college and the training of the area healthcare workforce.
Simpson General not only invests in up-and-coming professionals, but also supports the ongoing success of their current employees and the safety of the patients they serve. The hospital stays current on required training with the help of workforce enhancement training funds requested by Co-Lin Workforce Education and administered through a project with the Mississippi Community College Board. Co-Lin Workforce Education also provides training opportunities for individuals. The new year will bring the start of a new session for those interested in the Emergency Medical Technician Training. Classes begin January 28, 2020 and require a completed application packet and $250.00 registration fee to be submitted by December 18, 2019. The total cost of the training is $575.00; however, scholarships are available. The Workforce Division at Copiah-Lincoln Community College exists to provide skills to current and future employees desiring to acquire skills necessary for their career no matter their age, background, or skill set. Training is available in various forms and accommodates a wide audience in the CLCC District, which includes Adams, Copiah, Franklin, Jefferson, Lawrence, Lincoln, and Simpson counties. Individuals benefit from affordable, short-term, non-credit, workforce training classes that provide new or enhanced skills needed to enter a new field or re-enter with upgraded skills.
