Mendenhall High School and Magee High School gymnasiums will receive air conditioning systems according to an announcement made by Superintendent Greg Paes during the school board meeting Thursday, October 11, 2018.
A local business ordered air conditioning equipment they could not use and the Maintenance Department of the Simpson County School was able to purchase the excess equipment at a reduced price which led the way for the air conditioning of the Magee and Mendenhall gyms. The cost, which is budgeted in the maintenance fund, will run approximately $70,000. Installations are to start as soon as possible.
The board approved request from Magee High School to dispose of drop-out and withdrawal records from 1992-1993 and keep grade inserts. Approval was granted to Mendenhall Elementary to accept a $300.00 donation from Stanley Graves Plumbing to be used toward cafeteria fines. Pilgrim Rest Church gave a donation of $100.00 to cover unpaid lunches at Simpson Central and Mendenhall Junior High.
Under travel and field trip request, permission was given to Amanda Sumrall and Magee High School Band to attend State Band Clinic, December 5-8, 2018 in Natchez, Ms. The trip is paid for with band funds.
Permission was granted to Jennifer Thornton, Marcie Tuggle and Magee Middle School students to attend the State Beta Leadership Summit, October 29-30, 2018. Students and Beta Club fund the trip.
Permission was granted for Cindy Albritton and Mendenhall High Honor Society students to travel to Washington DC on January 30, 2019 – February 3, 2019. Students and parents will fund the trip.
Board approved Brenda White and JoAnn Floyd to attend the HOSA conference, November 1-2, 2018 in Biloxi, MS. The trip is funded by HOSA funds.
Board granted permission to Sheryl Robinson and Kay Collier to attend the Central Access User Conference, October 17-19, 2018 in Biloxi, MS. The trip is paid through district funds.
Permission was granted for Brittany Johnson to attend the Autism Training Project on November 8, 2018 in Gulfport, Ms. The trip is paid with federal funds.
In Human Resources, the following retirements, terminations, and resignations were approved: Robert Canoy retiring from Mendenhall Jr. High as Band Director, Lance Adams terminated at Magee Elementary as a cafeteria worker, Alfred Hubbard resignation at Mendenhall Jr. High as Custodian, Kaleshia Porter termination from Mendenhall High as curriculum Specialist, and William Clark resignation as a bus driver for the SPED route.
Marion Jackson transfer from Magee Middle to Magee High School was approved.
Leslie Craft was hired as a teacher at Magee Middle School. John Taylor Wesley was hired as a band director at Simpson Central. Mae Nell Moore was hired as a teacher at Magee Middle. Susan Warren was hired as a substitute bus driver at Magee High School. Kendra Sanders was hired as a secretary/bookkeeper for support services. Michelle Griffith was hired as a cafeteria worker at Magee Middle. Chelsea Robinson was hired as a cafeteria worker at Magee Elementary. Jamus Wilson and Nick Lee were hired as a substitute bus driver at Mendenhall High School
With no further business meeting was adjourned until November board meeting.
