Teams from the fire departments of Simpson County in addition to teams from all over the state will converge on downtown Mendenhall on May 19th to participate in the Fire Fighter Challenge!
If you have never attended a challenge, plan to do so!!! The event is amazing. Philip Magee and Jerry Fairchild give an overview of the event in their video.
I attended last year and was amazed at the feats these guys and girls undertook! This year the “tower” is going to be 5 stories high! When I saw Michael Allan in full turn-out gear grab a hose and run up the tower, I was shocked! Not because I didn’t think Michael could accomplish the task…I was shocked at the last and the ones that followed. (For you information, Michael did complete the course but not without a few “bumps!”)
The event is sponsored by the Simpson County Fire Departments as a means to raise money for the benevolence fund. Following the death of Chief Randy Moore, the firefighters of Simpson County became aware of the need to reach out and help any firemen in the county in case of a death. These guys are selling tickets on a chance on a 54 inch 25 horsepower Blackjack Zero Turn Lawn mower donated by Magee Outdoor Power and Big Dog Mower. Tickets are $1 each or $20 for a book of 25 tickets. Tickets can be purchased from any firemen in the county as well as Magee Outdoor Power.
The Fire-fighter challenge will be set up in front of the Mendenhall Police Station (a side-street off main). Bring your lawn chair.
A junior fire fighter challenge will also be apart of the day’s events.
