Mississippi Hub’s  attorney, Richard Bailey, with Burnini Law Firm, was present at the board meeting to address the objection concerning the value of the plant. Tax records show the value of the property as $372,000,000. The attorney is arguing the true value is only $99,000,000. The attorney asked the board to reconsider the value. Taxes due from last year are presently in litigation. The board voted to overrule the objection and proceed with the county’s value of the property.

An open hearing was held concerning two property owners who are questing the amount they are taxed. Magee Shopping Center questioned the tax of the property increase. Jamie Brewer, Tax Accessor, advised the increase was due to Burger King’s new building being built on the property. The other property in question was Raleigh Annex Apartments. No one from the apartment complex was present and due to lack of information being provided, the board overruled the objection.

Due to the pandemic , the board approved a $50 fee increase for election commissioners on election day fees and a Covid -19 Pandemic fee of $50 for election workers  for elections occurring during July 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. The board approved software renewal for the election tablets in the amount of $5,624.50.

Road Manager Ben Warren stated 20 of the 30 miles of road repairs have been completed.
