Social Distancing was observed during the April 6, 2020 board meeting. Supervisors and others in attendance all kept plenty of distance between each other.
Update was given that partitions are being installed in all county offices.
Sheriff Mullins presented the following report for approval:
- Ratified the approval of five employees to attend SCLEOTA Class at a cost of $200.00 each. A 100% reimbursable by Co-Lin.
- Approval was given to hire Jerri McCarty part time as a jailer.
- The board approved to purchase Mocha a K-9 from Covington County Sheriff’s Office for the cost of $2500.00. Mocha is a 3-year old Narcotics dog.
County Engineer, Buddy Woolverton, reported the following update on State Aid, Federal Aid, LSBP and ERBR Projects:
ERBR-STP/BR-0064f – Heed Neely Road
- 92% Complete
- 92% lapsed time
- Contractor completed bridge, approach with guardrails and grassed the site. Will conduct final inspection once permanent grass is established.
LSBP-64(22) – Jake Barnes Road
- 55% complete
- 73% Elapsed time
- Contractor has driven all piling and set spans
ERBR-64(02) Rockport- New Hebron Road
- 88% Complete
- 82% elapsed time
- Contractor has completed the bridge.
SAP-64(19) S – Surface Maintenance Mt. Zion to Shivers Road
- P.S. & E. Inspections on March 9, 2020. Office review plans were mailed to State Aid on March 10, 2020.
- P.S.& E. Assembly forwarded to State Aid on March 31, 2020.
SAP-64(16)M – Surface Maintenance Cato Road
- P.S. & E. Inspection on March 9, 2020. Will reseal surface
- P.S. & E. Assembly was mailed to State Aid on March 11, 2020
County Administrator, Rhuel Dickinson, presented the following report for approval:
- Ratify the prior approval of County Administrator Rhuel Dickinson for the purchase of culverts for the road department from G & O low quote for $4,055.15.
- Rescind the vote of March 31, 2020, to advertise for bids for the sale of the Kobelco Excavator and the CAR 312 Excavator.
- Approve the Emergency purchase of a Caterpillar Excavator for $194,921.04 with trade in of $11,500.00 net amount of $183,421.04, for the purpose of repairing washed out roads due to recent flooding with large culverts that out current excavator is too small to handle because the delay incident to obtaining competitive bids would be detrimental to making such repairs in a timely manner for the traveling safety of the public. Also approve the emergency trade-in of the old Kobelco Excavator on the new excavator on the new excavator. Also approve obtaining lease purchase financing quotation bids.
- Approval to make emergency bridge repairs on Athens Road to replace the 31-foot slab and repair piling on bent #5 that the bridge inspectors have just determined is buckling and is in need of immediate repair. Approval was given for the quotation from Oddee Smith Construction for $28,113 plus additional costs for splicing pilings as necessary and subject to his inspection when water level is such to make proper repairs.
- Approval was granted for the purchase of 4 new Dodge Durango Pursuit vehicles for the Sheriff’s office and add-on’s.
- Approve travel for Chris Jones and Randall Coleman to attend the Mississippi Constables Annual Convention and Training Seminar in Gulfport, MS June 1-6, 2020.
