Simpson Central School Students Claim Win Once Again in State History Competition

After advancing to the Mississippi History Day State Competition in Jackson, Simpson Central School students Kami Patrick and Garnet Gary have once again taken home a first-place win.

Competing in the Junior Group Exhibit category, Patrick and Gary won first place for their exhibit on civil rights activist Medgar Evers. The title of the project was called Medgar Evers – Leading Mississippi to a New Frontier.

In February, at the Mississippi History Day Southern Regional Competition in Hattiesburg, the students completed a similar exhibit on the icon, which awarded them a first-place title.

Because of their recent victory, both students are qualified to attend the national competition, which will take place this summer in College Park, Maryland.

The Mississippi History Day State Competition was held at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson and is sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
