Simpson Central School Hosts Second Annual Heart Walk
Simpson Central School (SCS) held their Second Annual Heart Walk to benefit the American Heart Association on Friday, April 29.
Organized by the SCS Beta Club, students and teachers from all grade levels participated in a 30-minute walk around campus to get their hearts pumping. Students and teachers wore red shirts and red hearts stickers to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease in order to help save lives.
Led by the motto “lets us lead by serving others,” the Beta Club raised more than $2,500 for the association to aid in its life-saving research against the #1 (heart disease) and #5 (heart disease) causes of death among men and women. Members raised $600 from the walk and over $1,900 in other fundraising efforts.
Beta Club sponsors Abigail Myers and Amber Young said they were incredibly impressed by their student’s drive to help others.
“Our kids not only wanted to fight back against heart illnesses, but they also wanted to educate the students at our school about how to develop healthy habits to keep their hearts healthy,” said Myers and Young.
Educational outreach efforts included heart presentations given by Beta Club members and morning announcements concerning heart-health facts.
“We just want to thank the parents, students, staff and community members for their support. We couldn’t have done it without you,” said the sponsors.
