The Simpson Academy Cougars win MAIS district 4AA boys varsity baseball championship Friday, April 16 against Hartfield Academy at Smith Wills Stadium.
After a long delay, the boys came out and put up three runs in the first inning.
Simpson’s Matthew Harrison, Scott Johnson and Ben Maddox scored runs in the first inning but the Cougars were unable to add to that score through six innings leaving several runners on base.
Hartfield scored one run in the third and two in the sixth to tie the score at 3. Maddox got on base in the seventh after being hit by a pitch, and with one out senior Dylan Sanford hit a deep ball into right center for a walk off triple to win 4 to 3.
Simpson had five hits, Sam McWilliams two 1B, Dylan Sanford 3B, Matthew Harrison 1B, Hooks Harvey 1B.
Starting pitcher senior Ben Maddox allowed only one run in 4 innings of work, Matthew Harrison pitched the final three innings for the win.
By winning District, the Cougars receive a bye in the first round of the MAIS AA baseball playoffs. Simpson has won 14 of the past 15 games going into playoff next week.
SCA varsity baseball overall record to date is 15-5, with last regular season game Monday night, April 20th against Hartfield at Smith Wills Stadium
