SilasBestTutorSilas Garner Reed, 95, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2015, at Magee General Hospital.  She was born in Simpson County to the late Silas Levi and Ola Kennedy Garner.

She was a founding member of Athens Baptist Church in Mendenhall, MS, where until the time of her death, she held the honor of being the oldest living church member.
Survivors include her two daughters, Jean Reed Adams and her husband Fred, of Jackson, MS and Donna Reed May and her husband,  Bob, of Brandon, MS.  Also surviving her are 19 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 74 years, Vernel F. Reed, her son, James Larry Reed, both of Mendenhall, MS and her three brothers, Paul Garner of Pritchard, AL, Ernest Garner of Batesville, MS and Timothy Garner of Fort Benning, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Tutor Funeral Home Chapel in Magee, MS.  Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2015, prior to funeral services.  Burial will be in Athens Baptist Church Cemetery.  Reverend John Coleman will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Athens Baptist Church Building Fund, 1535 Athens Road, Mendenhall, MS 39114.
