Sidney Dewitt McMillon
(May 27, 1964 – September 1, 2023)

Today, we gather to honor, remember, and bid farewell to a remarkable soul, Sidney Dewitt McMillon.

Drawing inspiration from the words of a wise writer, “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.”  Dewitt’s life was a testament to the power of giving.  He exemplified generosity, kindness, and a wonderful sense of humor that brightened, the live of all who knew him.

Born on May 27th, 1964, in Jackson, Mississippi, Dewitt rarely spoke of his childhood, but it was evident that his life’s journey was filled with compassion and care for others.  As a self-employed carpenter and mechanic, he possessed an extraordinary talent for fixing anything that came his way.

Dewitt was not just a skilled craftsman; a loving father, a cherished brother, and a loyal friend.  The void left by his absence will be deeply felt, as his infectious humor brought joy and laughter to countless moments.

His passions were varied and brought immense joy into his life.  Building model cars, listening to country music, hunting and fishing, cracking jokes – these were among the many things that ignited his spirit.  Dewitt’s love for collecting Hot Wheels and models was a testament to his detail and commitment.

One could say that he was a man of many talents, for his artistic ability extended beyond craftsmanship; he was also a skillful artist.

Driven by an unyielding work ethic, Dewitt rarely sat idle; he believed in making the most of every moment, always eager to take on new challenges.

Yet, beyond his talents and achievements, Dewitt’s true legacy lies in his unwavering belief in treating everyone with respect and acceptance.  He embodied the essence of a great person, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  His timeless words, “treat people how you want to be treated,” will forever resonate in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Aubrey McMillon, Sr.; mother, Amy Lou Puckett Murphree; brother, James Aubrey McMillon, Jr.; and sister, Cathy McMillon Morehead.

Survivors include his three daughters, Kassity Blackwell (Morgan), Kassey Hoeniges (Kyle) and Amanda Starita; two step-sons, William Copeland and Joseph Copeland; nine grandchildren, Tahlia Blackwell, Oakley Hoeniges, Rawsen Copeland, Brayli Copeland, Liam McClendon, Mira McClendon, Axton Starita, Lane Kemp and Fisher Kemp; one brother, George McMillon; two sisters, Sylvia McMillon and Dianne Kees; and a host of other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3077 Simpson Hwy 13, Mendenhall, Mississippi, and on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. until service time.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. The burial will follow in D` Lo Cemetery in D`Lo, Mississippi. Bro. Timothy Carlisle will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401

Pallbearers will be Ron King, Brent King, Jeremy McMillon, Ethan McMillon, Monta Magee, and Danny Ray Hobbs.

As we bid fair to this extraordinary individual, let us cherish the memories, the laughter, and the love he shared.  Sidney Dewitt McMillon will live on in our hearts, an inspiration to embrace life with kindness, generosity, and a spirit of hard work.

May his soul find eternal peace, and may we carry forward his legacy of compassion and love in our own lives.
