Jackson, MS— Esri, a world leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology, presented the Secretary of State’s Office with a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award for the Y’all Business website on June 29th, 2016, at their annual User Conference.
“Y’all Business offers in-depth research to businesses never before available in one site and not available in any other State,” says Secretary Hosemann. “Y’all Business is a state of the art tool for promoting job creation and economic development in Mississippi. This is a well-deserved award for the imaginative design and development executed by our Agency and website developer, The Geospatial Group, a Mississippi company.”
Selected from over 300,000 eligible candidates, the Secretary of State’s Office received the award for its innovative application of technology, data collection, geospatial information visualization, and thought leadership through GIS in the field of information technology.
Y’all Business pairs State data with the power of Esri’s GIS platform to build a solution for users to gage, evaluate, and sublimate multi-agency data to determine the best course for their business whether by location, population, trends, or critical infrastructure.
The SAG awards were created to honor organization’s vision, leadership, hard work, and innovative use of Esri’s geographic information system (GIS) technology. GIS can virtually link any information to a geographic location and this provides a tremendous benefit for displaying data through a visual context.
“The SAG Awards serve a great purpose,” said Esri founder and President Jack Dangermond. “A Special Achievement in GIS Award recognizes best practices for organizations implementing technology to change the world. Highlighting good work benefits the entire GIS community and that’s very valuable.”
