LAUREL, Miss. — Aug. 26, 2026 — Tommy Ulmer has been appointed by the Jones County Board of Supervisors to serve on the Board of Trustees of South Central Regional Medical Center, succeeding the late Becky Brewer, whose years of dedication and leadership left a lasting mark on the hospital.
A lifelong resident of the Sharon community, Ulmer brings decades of leadership experience and a strong understanding of the communities within South Central’s service area. He has worked for Dixie Electric Power Association for 35 years and currently serves as Operations Manager. He also owns and operates Major Hay Farms and is a deacon of First Baptist Church of Sharon.
For Ulmer, this appointment carries special meaning because of his close relationship with Brewer and the example she set as a trustee.
“Mrs. Becky was a very elegant lady who led with a tremendous amount of wisdom,” Ulmer said. “I’ve known her all my life, and she was like another mother to me. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to fill the position she held. I hope to honor her legacy through my work on behalf of the hospital.”
Born at SCRMC, Ulmer has witnessed the organization’s impact on local families throughout his life. More recently, that connection became even more meaningful when his mother, Barbara Ulmer, underwent treatment at South Central for Stage 4 cancer.
“We saw firsthand how well she was cared for and how good everyone at South Central was to her and our whole family,” Ulmer said. “By the grace of God, she is now cancer-free. Seeing that level of care for my mom further strengthened my appreciation for the people here and the work they do every day.”
South Central’s consortium partnership with Simpson General Hospital also gives Ulmer a special connection to the health system’s growth and regional reach. His father-in-law, the late Dr. William G. Munn, practiced medicine there for more than 50 years, allowing Ulmer to have a unique perspective on the hospital’s role in preserving access to local health care.
Family remains a central part of Ulmer’s life. He and his wife, Jennifer, have two daughters, Emily Flessner and Karsyn Ulmer, and one grandson, Jack Bennett Flessner. Outside of work and civic involvement, Ulmer enjoys bow hunting, and raising sim-angus cattle.
“I was born and raised here, and this has always been my home,” Ulmer said. “I’m honored to join the Board of Trustees and serve alongside the other members as well as the SCRMC leadership team. South Central plays such an important role in the health and well-being of the people we serve, and I look forward to doing my part.”
Ulmer’s appointment reflects the Board of Trustees’ focus on local representation and sound governance as South Central Regional Medical Center continues serving patients and families across the region.
Ulmer joins fellow trustees George Walters, chair; Victor Jones, vice chair; Lewis Goins, secretary; Michael R. Lowe, treasurer; Arthur Siggers; and Jay Scoggin.
